{"id":99,"date":"2012-06-14T04:39:26","date_gmt":"2012-06-14T04:39:26","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.undergroundmediaware.com\/?p=99"},"modified":"2012-06-14T04:39:26","modified_gmt":"2012-06-14T04:39:26","slug":"product-vs-passion","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.undergroundmediaware.com\/?p=99","title":{"rendered":"Product vs. Passion"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>In 2003, I began writing my first novel.\u00a0 Out of all my story ideas, it was the one I felt most passionate about.<\/p>\n<p>No, it wasn\u2019t <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">The Alpha And The Omega<\/span>.<\/p>\n<p>Unlike <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">A&amp;O<\/span>, this \u201cfirst novel\u201d was sci-fi.\u00a0 But like <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">A&amp;O<\/span>, it also had elements of horror and religion.\u00a0 In other words, it was so \u201cout there\u201d, I decided no agent or publisher would ever consider it from a first-time author.<\/p>\n<p>So 200 pages into the first draft, I abandoned it.\u00a0 Rifling through all my other story ideas, I chose the one I judged to be the most \u201ccommercially accessible\u201d and began writing it.\u00a0 And that\u2019s how <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">A&amp;O<\/span> became my debut novel.<\/p>\n<p>Did I sell out?\u00a0 I rationalized that I didn\u2019t, that I would\u2019ve eventually written <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">A&amp;O<\/span> as my second novel.\u00a0 (But aren\u2019t rationalizations just lies, giftwrapped with pretty bows?)<\/p>\n<p>Have you ever \u201csold out\u201d (artistically or otherwise)?\u00a0 Have you ever chose \u201cproduct over passion\u201d?\u00a0 If so, was it ultimately worth it?\u00a0 (In regards to <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">A&amp;O<\/span>, I guess time and book sales will tell\u2026)<\/p>\n<p>PS \u2013 I\u2019m currently back to writing my \u201cfirst novel\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>In 2003, I began writing my first novel.
