I recently joked with a friend that I should have made Christ and the Devil hunky shirtless teenagers in my novel, to cash in on the latest young-adult-paranormal-romance craze.\u00a0 (\u201cI\u2019m on Team Jesus.\u201d\u00a0 \u201cGo Team Lucifer!\u201d)<\/p>\n
As is, The Alpha And The Omega<\/span> is episodic, yet whole.\u00a0 It\u2019s religious, yet secular.\u00a0 It\u2019s mostly horror, with elements of drama and geopolitics, and a dash of sci-fi.\u00a0 In short, it has no set demographic, except for, well, me.<\/p>\n And that\u2019s why I wrote A&O<\/span>, because it was the kind of story I so desperately wanted to read, but couldn\u2019t find anywhere on the shelves.\u00a0 But by writing a story particular to me, I created a work with no mass built-in audience.<\/p>\n So should I write what I like, or what I think others like (e.g. young-adult-paranormal-romance)?<\/p>\n As with too many things in life, the answer lies with money.\u00a0 If wealth\u2019s my goal, then my next novel will be called The Alpha And The Omega: New Moon<\/span>.<\/p>\n However, I love writing.\u00a0 If I was destined to never sell another book, I\u2019d still write.\u00a0 Plus I\u2019m brimming with gobs \u2018o other tales I\u2019m dying to tell.\u00a0 And those other tales are even more unconventional than A&O<\/span>.\u00a0 (In fact, I chose A&O<\/span> to be my debut novel since it was my most mainstream<\/em> story.)<\/p>\n So be warned: more religious\/secular\/sci-fi\/horror (and utterly unmarketable) strangeness is coming soon.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" I recently joked with a friend that I should have made Christ and the Devil hunky shirtless teenagers in my novel, to cash in on the latest young-adult-paranormal-romance craze.
